“Men of Honor” Simulcast & Cookout – June 15

CALLING ALL MEN! “Men of Honor” simulcast is Friday, June 15 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall, followed by a cookout on the upper level patio. A freewill offering will be received to cover the cost of the meal. RSVP to the church office (445-4348) or to Dan Olsen (713-2428) by Wednesday, June 13.

This two-hour simulcast will be filled with solid teaching, inspiring worship, and powerful stories to challenge the men of your church and community to become strong men of honor for Christ and for your families. Hosted live at Sherwood Church in Albany, Georgia, and broadcast to churches around the world, Alex and Stephen Kendrick (the writers of the feature film, “Courageous”), Pastor Michael Catt, the author of “Courageous Living,” and Ed Litton, who played Pastor Hunt in “Courageous,” will be teaching on God’s design for fathers, winning your children’s hearts, and how men can make a stronger commitment to Christ. Then, the actors who played Javier, Nathan, Adam, Shane, and William Barrett in “Courageous” will be doing an inspiring roundtable session where they share personal stories of how God is working in their lives and in men across the nation. “Songs of the Spirit” Concert

Dr. Keith Hampton, noted composer, organist, choral conductor, and clinician will be the featured artist in “Songs of the Spirit,” a concert of spirituals and gospel music on Sunday, June 3 at 2:30 PM in the Sanctuary. This concert will be performed by ALC’s children’s choirs, youth and adult choirs singing his compositions with ALC soloists, Kate Howell, Helen Isdal, Thurlow Baxter, and Meredith Hughes. There will be a freewill offering to help offset the expenses of the concert.

Classically trained as an organist and as a conductor, Dr. Hampton (“Doc”) has taught students from nursery through college levels, served as Director of Music at churches of various denominations and is often sought after as a guest conductor and workshop clinician nationally and internationally. He will work with the youth and adults on Saturday, June 2, in a workshop in preparation for Sunday’s concert. He will share background information about spirituals and black gospel music during the workshop and rehearsal. On Sunday morning between services “Doc” will work with the children’s choir to prepare them for the afternoon concert. “Doc” will also play several organ pieces featuring our 31-rank Schantz pipe organ.

Musical selections that will be sung include, “He Never Failed Me Yet,” “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen,” “Blessed Assurance,” “My God is an Awesome God,” “Be Blessed My Brother,” “My Everything,” “All I Want to Do is Praise Your Name,” and “Praise His Holy Name.” This spirited concert will give those in attendance an authentic picture of how this truly American musical genre should be sung. The choirs are preparing all through May for the concert.

New Women’s Bible Study Starts May 22
