2019 HOLY WEEK WORSHIP SCHEDULE
Holy Week begins with our worship on Palm Sunday. This service, which marks Jesus’ return to Jerusalem conveys both the triumphant entry and the shadow of the Passion to come. Join us at traditional worship in the sanctuary at 8:00 and 10:30 or contemporary worship at 9:00 or 10:30 in the Fellowship Hall
At 7:00 p.m. we invite you to join us in the sanctuary as we share communion and remember the meal Jesus and the Disciples were sharing for Passover in the upper room before his betrayal.
Our Journey through Holy week continues on Good Friday at 7:00 p.m. with a Tenebrae service in the Sanctuary,
The word "Tenebrae" comes from the Latin meaning "darkness." The Tenebrae is an ancient Christian Good Friday service that makes use of gradually diminishing light through the extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of that week from the triumphant Palm Sunday entry through Jesus' burial. This increasing darkness symbolizes the approaching darkness of Jesus' death and of hopelessness in the world without God. The service concludes in darkness, with a final candle, the Christ candle, being extinguished, symbolizing the death of Jesus and the closing of Jesus' tomb. We will then leave in silence and ponder the impact of Christ's death and await the coming Resurrection.
This service will be presented as a liturgical drama with special music presented by the Choir. Please plan to attend what is surely to become a powerful tradition.
